Work in Progress

A FlipSide Production

I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm a work in progress

I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm a work in progress

For the last twenty years
I have been immersed in this poetry game
And it has given so much to my soul

When I'm empty it fills my cup til full again
But it also forces me to look deep within
To be better than yesterday because I teach the youth
And they always see through the fakes and charlatans
Eventually. So there is plenty for me to improve on
I'm a messy guy who loves to relax
Though I do work hard
I would prefer to hardly work
I'm kind of a flirt but not looking for love per se
I'm a big-ass kid
Sometimes I just wanna play

I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm a work in progress
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm a work in progress

I'm a serial monogamer
Though I've never tied the knot
Leaves me wrought with guilt
Maybe I'm the problem
Logical to a fault
And unable to shake it
So vulnerable to emotions
My feelings seem naked
But not in a bad way
I'm truly an upbeat guy
But a well-told story is bound to make me cry
And I'm fine with that
I use sarcasm a lot because it keeps me calm
Many friends have passed
But I really miss my mom
I have lots of bags to carry
Too many to confess
But every day I get better
I'm a work in progress

I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm a work in progress
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm a work in progress

Work work work work. Keep working now
Work work work work. No stopping now
Work work work work. Keep growing now
Work work work work. Keep it going now
Work work work work. Keep it flowing now
Work work work work. Keep moving
Work work work work. Keep improving
Work work work work. And get better now

I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm a work in progress
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm a work in progress

I'm afraid to love again
Cuz of the last broken heart I received
But it yielded the greatest gift
That I have ever conceived
I know I should eat healthier
But hamburgers keep calling my name
At times fear thwarted my success
My not-so-secret shame
My daughter is so much like me
That it scares me at times
Don't want her to repeat the mistakes
That cost me some of my prime
Even with all my issues
I'm grateful to be so blessed
I vow to never stop working
Cuz I'm still a work in progress

I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm a work in progress
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm working on me
I'm a work in progress

Keep working
Become the best version of you
And be blessed
Peace
