Trying to Maintain
A FlipSide Production
The world is in pain
And we're just trying to maintain
The rise of hatred on the right
Mixed with the apathy and inaction on the left
Creates a mixture
That leads to pain
And we're just trying to maintain
His name was Alex
A native of Phoenix, who was unable to rise from his own ashes
To be of assistance to the world
Armed with a psych degree
His knowledge could have helped the antagonist with his demons
But that fateful day he wanted to analyze
The split personality of Bruce Wayne
Maybe make the case he's insane
But ironically it was his bane that caused his demise
He was a tough mudder
But that night the obstacles included bullets and darkness
Winning was truly the difference between life and death
Life and breath
Reality tv in a Colorado theater, have we learned our lesson yet?
We continue to miss the point
Our cinematic urges have blurred the lines
That we use to define
Video games from life
A gun culture steeped in traditions of muskets and shotguns
Now includes automags and assault weapons
We're overstepping our bounds
Like desert eagles with 25 rounds of ammo
Need to call Sambo
So we can soft-shoe past our issues like politicians who
Tap tap tap tap tap tap dance around NRA lobbyists
With million-dollar donations
Fuck the 90% of the nation that wants gun relief
That's not possible if I wanna keep getting my paper
I know
Let's keep blaming rappers and video game makers
Cuz lord knows they deserve it
2nd amendment rights
Let's preserve it
Guns don't kill people they argue
Like six-year-old children in the schoolyard
Tell that to the residents of Uvalde Texas
A recent nexus of tears and guns
Where fathers give their sons weapons for Christmas
And then praise Jesus on weekends
Now afraid to send their children to class
In fear they might die en masse
From another school shooting
At least in the old west
They were looting
Today's deaths are more senseless
Leaving us more defenseless than ever
As we continue to sever from reality
A bit of ironic duality
Cuz this is real
Caskets line streets
Cuz so many are killed
Not enough gravesites to conceal
The problem
So we just keep droppin' em
Six feet deep
In our sleep
The world is in pain
And we're just trying to maintain
The media creates the fear and then profits from the violence
So we buy more guns and create more moments of silence
A cycle of destruction that now lives inside us
We're outraged for the victims but the enemy is us
It's like we're riding the short bus cuz we can't understand
For the system to change we must make demands
Some sort of gun control would stem a growing problem
We can't sit around and expect them to solve them
They won't
What do you wanna do?
The world is in pain
And we're just trying to maintain
The world is in pain
And we're just trying to maintain
The world is in pain
