Tuesday Of The Sixties

Times were changing fast and so
When we grew up we didn't know
Just how to be
Revolution everywhere
We young were hip all others square
And love was free
I was a product of the boom
Dismissing the atomic doom
They said was nigh
A renegade or so I thought
Conventionality I fought
When we were high

So I began to hang around
By Fulham Broadway underground
The place to be
Boutiques playing Caroline
Had us singing "I Feel Fine"
And "I Feel Free"
Dressed in a parka as were most
We drove our scooters to the coast
And had a beer
She asked if I would like to talk
When I agreed we took a walk
Along the pier

Tuesday came and went so fast
Good things often never last
Monday Monday, purple haze
Friday on my mind a phase
She wore flowers in her hair
When she kissed me at the Chelsea fair
Tuesday of the Sixties
I will always remember you

Decades later now we're held
Conforming where we once rebelled
We play the game
Some would say we've failed the test
Becoming driftwood like the rest
We're all to blame
The other day while leafing through
The daily news I made it to
The classifieds
In column four, page thirty-three
I read a brief obituary
My day had died

Tuesday came and went so fast
Good things often never last
Monday Monday, purple haze
Friday on my mind a phase
She wore flowers in her hair
When she kissed me at the Chelsea fair
Tuesday of the Sixties
I will always remember you
She wore flowers in her hair
When she kissed me at the Chelsea fair
Tuesday of the Sixties
I will always remember you
