My Flying Doctor

I'm like a fading fighter, waiting for another count
The frequency of sorrow in the news
Both national and personal increases by the year
And hurts me far more often than I'd ever hoped to hear
It hits me so much harder than I'd choose

Here comes time, my flying doctor
Here comes time and time again
Never fails to ease my symptoms
Never fails to ease my pain

Those early years, the local gym, my moves were fast and smooth
And rarely did a telling blow get through
From sparring partners, sound like me, in body and in mind
An international trouble spot I probably couldn't find
And facing up to grief, I never knew

Here comes time, my flying doctor
Here comes time and time again
Never fails to ease my symptoms
Never fails to ease my pain

When young our time is fancy free
The minutes and the hours
Producing far more days of sun
Than those beset by showers
While growing up has such reward
It also has a cost
A part of which is suffering
When precious lives are lost

But as more punches find their mark, I'm wishing for the bell
My flying doctor cannot come too fast
To take away the impact, so acute and such a shock
The aching will subside along with progress of the clock
But who knows when a blow will be my last

Then no more, my flying doctor
Needs to come to me again
Someone else may have the symptoms
Someone else may have the pain
Here comes time, my flying doctor
Here comes time and time again
Never fails to ease my symptoms
Never fails to ease my pain
Never fails to ease my pain
Never fails to ease my pain
My flying doctor
