Christmas Morning

If milestones are spectrum
I'm on the other end
Before it was all I wanted
Now I can't imagine it
Any responsibility brings
A dying star of weight
So I'll take comfort
In these years between
Being a child and having them

Because Christmas morning
Is simpler
Without the young, the old, or the lord

I've been in a period
Of slow healing
I'd like that to go on
Find the space beyond restored
In a quiet house with a garden
Because I've seen how frail
And temporary this all is

It's all so simple now
That I'm on my own
And I'll take the time to heal
Before I slip into the void

And if the future happens
It's because I'm letting go
