Corona Used To Be Just A Pretty Word

Corona Used To Be Just A Pretty Word...

Corona used to be just a pretty word,
Halo of light around the moon.
Ring of fidelity,an omen of hope,
Oceans and ovulation kept in tune.

Shakespeare once said that a rose by,
Any other name would smell so sweet.
From intensive wards I hear breathless whispers,
Creeping like fog along my street.

My door is closed, the curtains drawn tight.
I'm all Locked down, in this latest outbreak.
I fix my mask as I pass my neighbours,
I don't get too close, don't offer any handshake.

I hold my breath, pass the time and I wait.

Airspace closed, the borders like a fortress.
I got quarantined when I caught the flu.
On my laptop,updated restrictions,
Keep your distance, stay in your queue.

I'm waiting for this winter to finally be over.
Waiting for some genius to put things right.
Waiting for the next sneaky mutation,
Sirens howling all through the night .

The doors are closed, the curtains drawn tight.
Were all Locked down, in this latest outbreak.
We fix our masks when we pass our neighbours,
We don't get too close, can't risk any contact

We hold our breath, kill some time and wait.

It's a game of chance that just went viral
So flip your coin or roll this dice.
"Run for the lifeboats" sounds more tempting,
Holidays in Spain are at rockbottom price.

I see you flaunting, your menacing beauty.
I see a noose of iceblue light.
The nations grovel, they kneel in submission,
Before your cruel and homocidal might.

The doors are closed, the curtains drawn tight.
We're still locked down in this latest outbreak .
Our masks are on, we peep through the curtains,
Lives on hold as we hang around and wait.

Close to some deadline, we just wait and we wait...

Corona used to be just a pretty word.
Cold summer beer, a musical sound.
All I see now is a bud that's swelling
Oozing and festering on a leafless bough.
