Dark Yarn Spun

So I found life where the blood runs Argento red
Following a darkness that Romero spread

Beguiled in the isles by the cover and the poster art
I was hooked it tore my soul apart

Bewitched by the static on the VHS
A place for me to de-stress and be at rest

Once I found that safe space to be scared
I'd escape to that place where the screams blare

A moth to a campfire dark yarn
That we've spun since the genesis of parlance

Wide eyes wired to the small screen
Amused by the scenes others found appalling

The real world worried me to madness
Felt that I could kill monster not a math test

Lesson a message of cautionary tales
Where you're forced to ask questions of yourself

What would I do and how would I survive?
When the dead are always evil and clowns carry knives

A black and white power struggle
Two satisfy this loud befuddle

Preferably in enigmatic story
My demons seem less tangible in allegory

Divide the fear share the lunacy
In the horror of it all found community

A forbidden fruit of qualm gore and nudity
The young being punished for their stark moral truancy

Human beings faced with the never before
Lost in the tension of menacing scores

Red herons are sure to startle a cool
A simple escape into cardinal rules

Promiscuity materialism prejudice
Intoxication victimisation malevolence

Sentenced to death where the slasher stalks
Catharsis in the shoes of that baddies walk

Vicariously die through fright of the victim
Reanimated through a final girls linchpin

Give in to the chase that all of us sweat
Antagonist portrayed personifies death

Or a social commentary on current affairs
Analogies for fears that we frequently under share
