Now Go Make That Useful Too

The day after magic
I found myself on your couch
Reading that book Id been trying to finish
While you were on your bed
Recharging in the sun
Like a lizard
And I can't resist rhyming that with wizard
Even though I know you're a witch
Which
Is clearly different
But I digress

Last night I learned
That the ball of emotion in my chest
Was my heart trying its best
To put me to the test
Wouldn't let me rest
'Till I let out all the best
Parts of me

And as I finished the last page
In tears
The book told me
"Now go make that useful too"
So teary eyed
I walked to you
And embraced you
'Cause you made my chest my home
A home where hugs are walls
And head scratches are beds
And our fingers intertwined can form a roof
While our voices carry up through it
And our bodies
In embrace
Is the warmth that'll let us face
The cold of the winter
And anyone who'll hinder
Our happiness, our magic

'Cause learning magic
Is learning to make love useful
So trying to love is
Magically useful
And usefully magic

'Cause when you realise most of your pain
Is love in disguise
Look at the skies
Let it in
Give it a name
Call it love
And make that pain
Useful again

I've been asking the universe for clues on how to write this album
I tried drugs and the pain and the rain
Being Abel
Being Cain

But you turned my world magic
And I find myself just writing poetry about that one night
Over and over again
Hoping against hope
I'll get somewhere new
That I'll find it
Or me
Or her
Or some clue
And when I open my eyes
I'm right here with you
The only place I feel true

The only place I can rest
Where I feel at home in my chest

Remember
Life is about the lives we touch
And it's about the things we feel
And about the people we keep
And the people who keep you
So take all your love and pain and fear and hurt
And now
Go and make that useful too
