Verisimilitude - Demo Version

I feel a shake on my shoulder, I know it's my turn
I see the campfire smolder and roll my eyes
We're, camping out at the base of a mountain we learned about
was the one where they saw a cave
But no one would go inside for any reason or money
Though many seasons had come and go,
until recently, him we need to be summoned for
had never woken - the sleepy foe was in slumber mode,
hibernating with his entire weight on a ton of gold
I'm making peace with this path that I'm walking now
These people think we're the answer and we're the talk of town
Could barely walk around without drawing a gawking crowd
But they don't know that it's probable this will not work out
In any case, I'm out the tent with my mini lute,
quietly humming, lightly strumming a simple tune
We all know we're walking into doom
I'm just trying lift the mood,
give us a little Verisimilitude

(Instrumental)

I see Thay by the fire pit, admiring it
"Mind if I join you and I just sit beside a minute?"
She smiles a little and points at the spot across from her
I sit down and hum while she boils a pot of coffee up
She says "I never thought I'd like this stuff;
In my hometown, we're taught human life is rough,
the food's bad and they're addicted to violence, but...
Something bitter in the morning, soon as I get up,
is a gentle reminder that life is made to be lived
And if it's bitter at the start, then you take it in sips
and as it goes on, you'll get acclimated
And then, well, everything else is sweeter when you taste it again."
She filled our cups, 'cause she's stood to stretch
Says she'll be back, but that she had some wood to fetch
She gives a quick salute then wanders off, sipping her bitter brew
I just sit and ruminate on some Verisimilitude

(Instrumental)

After maybe thirty minutes or less,
Ogavar comes out of his tent, gripping his crest,
gives a little nod, says he isn't feeling the best,
but that a quick prayer should fix this particular mess
And with that, he walks around to everyone's tents,
says a couple quiet words, giving Blessings to them,
asking Helm for continued help protecting his friends -
and if anyone doesn't make it to forgive them their sins
He spends like maybe ten minutes on it
Then when it starts to drizzle,
he defends it and calls it a sign from up on high
that our venture is guarded
says he feels better whenever he tends to the party
I nod - who am I to argue or try to rebuke or smear it?
That's why I'm playing: I'm hoping it helps the crew to hear it
We sit together and we listen to birds in the interlude
chirping chipper Verisimilitude

(Instrumental)

Thor and Mera both get up around the same time
My coffee's almost gone, but I keep playing
I'm kind of hoping Thay will come back and she'll make some more
but until she does I just observe Mera and Thor
It seems like the dwarf is impressed with her power
He says every human he's met was a delicate flower,
but he'd like to train with her -
if she reckons the challenge wouldn't be too much...
She takes a second to glower
before grabbing him by the arm, dragging him away
They compete and talk about their different strategies and traits
I'm pretty sure Thordrum's the first stranger
that's normalized her aim to get stronger as the habits of a lady
I pluck a little happier, I can't deny it;
I see my friends supporting each other and amplifying
I keep on fantasizing about the happiness we're due
worth being privy to,
earned this sense of Verisimilitude

(Instrumental)

Venti must have got up at the same time as me
She wanders back through the camp, absentmindedly
Writing stuff in her diary, sketching the local flora,
coming toward the spot where I'm sitting, and now the fire's weak
She only seems to notice me as she sits
Giving an awkward little "oh, good morning" like we've never met
I just nod and ask whether there was anything intriguing
or if she found any samples to keep in her kit - (whoops)
She talks for like twenty to thirty minutes just about
rocks in the area indicating a sudden draught
Something about the dragon and drying the rivers up
and how that normally takes a long time, so he's been up a while
I don't get it, but I'm happy that she's having fun
We've got a tough battle, it's gonna be a nasty one
I'm glad she's serving this interview
learned from the miniscule,
so immersed in Verisimilitude

(Instrumental)

I keep on waiting for Jayyra to join the crew and me
The snores indicate she's enjoying her beauty sleep
Even Arty's awake,
dutifully communing with the local plants and animals,
asking them about the feud we seek
We're all chatting and standing around
We plan to string up all the food to keep the animals out
and leave the campsite set up, but abandoned for now,
we'll take our weapons - everything else we'll manage without
Jayyra looks bummed and puts down the kit that she packed
Wait a minute, she got up and ready quick as a flash
I ain't even see her come out, she's tricky to catch
I feel like that'll be handy in this particular match
She's impressively fast and remarkably positive
If I'm honest, I wish I was such a hard-to-beat optimist
It's impossible to curse what we're finna do
with her coming with the crew
Serving pure Verisimilitude

(Instrumental)

I take a deep breath and I lay the course
This is it, it's the moment we been waiting for
All things considered, I feel like right up to the day before,
I was fifty-fifty, but I ain't no more
After seeing that city, I know what's necessary
It's hecka scary,
but everybody is prepped to carry out the mission, Semper Fi
Heroic or villainized,
doesn't matter anymore
That dragon is finna die
I swear, it's him or I
And I already made another promise to my little guy
We start walking as the sun begins to rise
It's final mission time
