Castle Crashers - Demo Version
(Instrumental)
It's pretty late at night
The moon shines with illuminating light
We approach the gates,
But immediately see something fishy with the scene
Something ain't right...
No guards was the clue something's up
I move to the front and the crew huddles up
Weapons out, Venti's even shut her notebook
With a knowing look, she cracks her knuckles once
We pass through the gates quiet as we can
Until we understand what's up,
We're coming brandishing weapons in our hands
We're gearing up in advance
We ain't taking any chance
Hell nah, this is the plan: "Split up -
Thay and Jayyra? Hug the walls, keeping pace with me
Jayyra, look for any clues in the place you see
Thordrum, basically just don't move.
Stay and keep an eye open
In case you see someone try to escape and flee
Ogavar, you stick with Thordrum. He can see, but listen for him
Get his back if it's important and he needs a mystic swordsman
Message me if shit gets sordid
I think our big reward is waiting through that hickory door
To send us to the frickin' morgue
Artie, can your spirit hawk go invisible?"
"Uhhh, yeah!" "Bet, send it through the vestibule
Me and the rest of you will walk in, weapons drew
If they see us coming, they probably already knew
We all take a deep breath
Offering a blessing, Ogavar seems stressed
Mera's stretched, Venti's unbuttoned her green vest
And we make our way into what feels like the fiend's nest
Soon as the door opens, I hear a quiet laugh at the end of the hall
And there's this eerie lighted path leading to the throne
A figure appears reclining back,
Clad in black, but familiar to us, matter of fact it was that guy!
The guy from Track One!
He's wearing armor similar to that of a Captain
There's no sign of the King,
Whatever has happened
Didn't take place recently or cause a distraction
I walk slow anyway to be aware of traps
But there isn't anything between me and where he's sat
He sighs like it's obvious
And our apparent lack of knowledge should embarrass all of us
And we're just staring back
"Alright, I can tell you're going to need a hint, huh?
Why don't we start at the beginning at the inn, huh?
You thought some idiot was in trouble
And believed a group of new adventurers would win, huh?
You thought you convinced some dummy to give you a bunch of money
And really think you were so strong?
Plus, I said you would die if you didn't accept the quest
And you thought that was real? No, wrong!
The fact is, that dragon only just awoke
The attacks that have happened to the dustfolk
Over the past year and a half or so were perpetrated
Just to make the King's approval rating... go up in smoke!"
The man stands and he chuckles again
But then he stops laughing
And affixes us with a grim-looking expression on his face
With a suddenly sinister tone in his voice
He approaches up to us then, and says
"If you were wondering, the answer is no
I didn't think you would make it back
Your families, though?
They looked for you for months after you vanished in smoke
But then they heard about Maeierstone and abandoned their hope...
Oh, look, you're starting to learn
Why would any ancient dragon ever bother to burn
A single settlement located at the bottom of their own domain
Rather than extorting all of their worth?
If you think about it, that's crazy
In fact, maybe it's even unlikely or flat fake
Seems like in that case, there's a better chance
That somebody clever planned out a whole attack-staged scene"
While he's going on and on in this monologue
I send a mental Message across to the entourage
I figure he's either about to launch into an assault barrage
Or he's going to dodge and get all the guards
He stops midway and says "Not exactly
I was waiting for y'all to attack me, actually
But since you don't seem like a fair match for me
I'm feeling like that'll be a little bit more fun
Maybe next time you cross paths with me!"
He swipes in front of his face, head ducks under his cape
Then he goes skip past me, whiplash
He's going to get to the front door in a run to escape
I call Thor like "Big bad, dude!
He's coming your way with a quick dash through
Try to get that hit-trap, trip that fool
No matter what, don't let him slip past you!"
Thay goes by like a flash of light
I think Venti might casted Blight
Artie's little bird is fast in flight
Giving everybody here in this last-ditch fight some magic hype!
Thor runs up to the door with a huff and a roar
And he swings, but the guy just ducks to the floor
Then he gives us a laugh, and he jumps in a portal
Ogavar yells and tosses his helmet off, and Artie dispels his hawk
The mood's pretty glum
Until we hear yelps and coughs from behind the throne
So we go to help and shock!
It's the King right there, and his guards with him
We get to untying them quick, and Ogavar gets them healed up
And then we start to field the bizarre questions:
Who we are, and how we appear to be connected
To whatever's been happening here inside the castle walls
We tell them all we got the dragon and they laugh it off
But when they see that we're not kidding
They half applaud, half apologize
And the King says that he'll grant us all titles in the morning
I tell him we don't deserve them -
We didn't get the guy behind the curtain trying to hurt him
He dismisses my protestations
And says the real emergency is always something bigger
It never stops at the first degree
"The reality is, in all history
There is seldom a cleanly called victory
That's a fight for another time
There's always another crime, but for tonight you've solved it for me
I would happily invite your crew
To stay here in the palace for a night or two
But if the story you've told us tonight is true
There's likely something else that you'd like to do."
I nod slow and pack up my crossbow
Looking around at the party, I feel like we all know
We head back to the city to get a room at the Inn
And we'll handle the rest of this all tomorrow
By the time we arrive, we're exhausted
We walk in where it all started
And find half a dozen familiar figures passed out at the tables
Making signs, looking for their lost kids
They've been here every day, reaching out for us
Even my dog's in the corner, passed out snoring
All I want to do is run over and tell them that we're here safe
And that I'm sorry for running out on them
But I think it's a better move to wait
Tomorrow's going to be a busy day either way
Venti heads behind the counter to grab us a couple keys
And we head up and drift off to sleep
In the morning, it sounds busy downstairs
I mentally prepare to go down there
Me, Arty, Venti, and Mera tell the others they can wait it out here
They laugh, like "That doesn't sound fair!"
Out in the town square, the crier's calling the page one news
We head down. There's a murmur in the front room
A crowd's waiting at the bottom of the tavern stairs
It feels like another dragon's there
I see a half a dozen haggard pairs of eyes, crying
Filling up with hope, almost believing their sight's lying
And a couple dozen people
All waiting to see the heroes from the news and their parents
Reunite finally
I barely start apologizing before they all rush forward,
Trying not to cry anymore
I keep saying I'm sorry, but every time it's ignored
They say "You're home safe, why are you sorry?"
That's all (that's all), but it isn't the ending
There's plenty of monsters to challenge the bard
And though (and though) there's something good in pretending
I'd like to acknowledge: reality's hard
I know (I know), when you're starting at zero
And every day's another dragon's lair
I know (I know), if you look for a hero
Then start in the mirror, you'll find one there
I know (I know), when you're starting at zero
