Dungeons - Demo Version

Stepped in the cave midday
End of the line, in a pretty big way
(Run) (Run)
(Run) (Run)
Bad sign, all of this decay
Bodies on the ground, sickening display
(Run) (Run)
(Run) (Run)
Knees weak, cold sweat on my hands,
Nearly wetting my pants, can't remember my plans
(Run) (Run)
(Run) (Run)
It's fucking freezing, I'm burning up,
My stomach hurts and I can't calm my nerves enough
(Run) (Run)
(Run) (Run)

I keep walking, I don't know how
I hear the snores echoing from low, low down
We're so close now to the foe's home ground
That I feel the floor rumble every nose doze sound
Brimstone, I can smell it in the air strong
Your boy's too scared to even prepare songs
Burnt corpse, clothing and hair gone
Looking like they ran but they didn't fare long
Faint glow further in the cave shows
Oil-slicked walls shine like a rainbow
I bet that shit would make it ignite
If there was a big fight and somebody flame-throws
We toss the torches a couple yards back,
Cast Dancing Lights, in front of our pack
Wading through the bodies all dumped in our path,
It's apparent their deaths were because of guard traps
All sprung far as I can tell,
And I can smell the rotten blood ripe as hell
It ain't long since somebody else tried to get inside the dwelling
In the same place I was knelt
And they seem to have tripped every trap in sight
From the floor up taller than your average height
It's like almost all of them didn't deter shit
But I know we're getting closer to the dragon's slype,
Spot a couple scales laying in the mud fresh
Half-day at most, it must've been upset,
Triggered its own traps on the way back in
I wonder what happened to give it so much stress
We continue down the tunnel all hushed
I notice claw marks dug through the wall dust
It's getting lighter the further we crawl up
It's getting hotter too, my body is all flushed

We turn the corner and it opens wide -
A red dragon lays on a pile of gold inside!
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
It's lookin at us with an open eye,
The snores come to a halt and it gloats with pride ("I hunger")
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
Its head raises, it groans and sighs,
Saying "Please, you must be joking, right?"
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
"Against a dragon as old as I?
You know you won't make it home tonight...?"
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)

"Well you may as well come say hi
You knew the trip was a one-way ride
Most people, they run, they hide -
But you waltzed in like a young Fey bride
You'll have to excuse the mess
I've spent all morning reducing pests..."
He throws a glance at the room's egress
At the body of another intrusive guest
Twisted in a knurled heap
Another dark red dragon in eternal sleep
It must have just went down this morning,
Judging by the blood still dripping from its pearly teeth
"These kids hit seven, eight hundred,
Look at what I got and they demonstrate dumb shit
This one tried to get away
Unbelievable, isn't it? Anyway, come sit!"
I walk into the room, quickly
Knees weak, cold sweat, finna puke, "Dizzy?"
Everybody else follows in with me,
Standing in a line, all caught like a fish be
"Look, I don't care for your names or your stories -
Lesser races all tend to bore me
But it's been a bad morning,
So if you make me laugh, I'll give you to the count of... forty."
A second passed and it felt like a year
All I could think was "Get the hell out of here!"
My voice wavered and trembled in fear
As I began to recite a poem from the frontier
But I saw a sneer pass over his gums
He's already annoyed, I ain't even begun
I trailed off as the whole room spun,
The dragon narrowed his eyes and counted: "One..."

It's a dragon, a Wyrm, you fool!
It probably wrote every song that you learned in school! ("Two...")
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN) ("Three...")
He'll think nothing of purging you -
One whiff of that flame and you're burning fuel! ("Four...")
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN) ("Five...")
This is it, it's do or die
Better think quick or the crew will fry ("Six...")
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN) ("Seven...")
Do something, you have to try!
These are your last moments alive! ("Eight...")
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
RUN (RUN)
("Nine...")
"No."

My hand moves, to the lute at my side
I'm thinking of the things I could do if I tried
I look at my crew and I decide:
Letting our grave be a cave is gonna ruin my vibe
I pull the lute up, get a song cued up,
Pluck two strings, and tell the dragon to mute up
He looks ready to rebuke us
But maybe intrigued at the nerve of this wannabe intruder
"So you're the little ringleader, right?
A bard, who's afraid to even recite?
You sneak in to fight me, then freeze at my sight
And now you're gonna tell me to be quiet?
Give me one reason to leave you alive."
"Well, I couldn't escape if I tried
Anything you do is gonna kill me in the blink of an eye,
So I may as well sing as I die
And if I'm gonna sing either way
Then it's better for you to let me do it how I do it
'Cause I'm betting the news
Isn't really accessible to you
If you been defending your loot, in this cave
All your treasure and jewels,
Then you prolly wanna know what's up out there
Are there any other reds eyeing up my lair?
Any dumbass thieves, trying to clutch my share
Or like a sorcerer claiming to be a bloodline heir?"
He grins wickedly, I'm feeling finicky
I keep plucking at the strings, never blinking
He says, "You can sing to me, like a little chickadee,
And I'll kill you quickly if the song don't stick with me."
He transfixes me with a maledictory look of trickery
Like he's declaring this a victory
I see the wizard, she's gripping something
In between her fingers and it hits me - "My soliloquy..."
