California

Now so many things have been written, in poetry, stories and song
But I want to share my own feelings, rather than just sing along
The place of my birth and my childhood, the world for my first twenty years
Home where the love and affection, dealt with my hopes and my fears

California, California
Wish I'd never felt the need to roam
California, better warn yer
Looking a lot like I won't be coming home

A state that has all you could wish for, a state that delivers your dream
A land of incredible contrast, you witness every extreme
Of climate, people and landscape, there's somewhere the sun always shines
The Beach Boys have told of the women, the movies have told of the wines

California, California
Wish I'd never felt the need to roam
California, better warn yer
Looking a lot like I won't be coming home

So proud was I to sign up for my country
To go and put things right where they were wrong
But by the second year, it was getting mighty clear
That no-one thought to tell us we'd be fighting for so long

The sun's shining down on our valley, this time in a far foreign land
It's not been a very good morning, suspect this is our last stand
A moment of calm has descended, and though it is but for a while
We fill it with talk of our homeland, and comfort ourselves with a smile

California, California
Wish I'd never felt the need to roam
California, better warn yer
Looking a lot like I won't be coming home
Yeah looking a lot like I won't be coming home
It's looking a lot like I won't be coming home
