If I Knew Then What I Know Now

When I was 18
I produced an album in my bedroom, a digital time capsule
Residual gift to myself, I listen again, I'm baffled
This kid's ideas, I don't know him
So I write him this poem, wish I could send it through time
If I knew then what I know now
Got trouble at school? With a girl? I could show how
No, my advice ain't picking numbers for the lottery
Son, there's something you hold onto that only leads to suffering
Best case you let go, and it's onto a new lifetime
Worst case the problem ages and it ain't like wine
I stop the letter, I look up, it hits me like, wow
I got it all figured out? What am I blind to right now?
What could I change today to transcend the computer
Look back, say thank you, from years in the future
If I knew then, what I'd do differently
No, what could I change now? What gift to my future history
What gift to my future history
