(I Feel Like) She's Leaving Me

I wonder if I'll lose my job
A pastor of the people
Could I lose my covering
From underneath the steeple

Could I lose my following
If I ever had one
I could lose the life I knew
Whether good one or a bad one

I guess that's not for me to decide but
What if I can no longer go along for the ride
In America's chariot though the church is inside
Who would have ever thought
That this would be the path of your Bride

Western Christianity needing restored
Many of her so called "leaders" always wanting more
I kept silent for so long
Because I wasn't sure

Unsure that I wasn't the problem
Unsure I wasn't deceived
Unsure that I would survive
Unsure if I wanted to be free

Sometimes bondage is so much easier
Than stepping into freedom
I wonder if the people we lead
Need us as much as we need them

But I cannot stand for the lies
Inflated ego super sized
And many churches that do the same
Preachers in Sneakers seeking fame
Million dollar mansions in God's Name
Million dollar mansions with books to blame

It feels fake
It feels like fraud
Do they put their trust in wealth
Is money their god

Is mammon their life
Comfort over strife
You appear to bow to leisure
And yet claim to bow to Christ

Eat his flesh and blood
You'd rather eat at chef's table
I turned on my tv and see
You wound up on my cable

How much was that new watch
How much was that new jet
How many "kings" have you kissed
Where's your first love that you left

And I'm sitting here weeping
Because I was influenced by you
But now I see your frailty
And now I want to fight you

But I'm not talking physical
Violence will do no good
I'm talking about speaking out
Using my mouth for what I should

I attended your conferences
Amen-ing when you preached
Undivided attention
Took notes of your soiled speech

You're nothing but a falsehood
You are a pretender
Caught up in the lavish life
As if you've surrendered

But you bow knee to power
You bow down to pleasure
Not trading the comfort of Egypt
I thought you knew better

And now I'm sick to my stomach
Like a dog who returns to its vomit
You can't get enough of yourself
Well you'll come crashing down like Hailey's Comet

Some may say will he write a book
On how the church he finally left
Is this the end of his ministry
Will he bow out humbly like the rest

But you have to get something right
Please don't be deceived
I didn't leave Evangelicalism
I wonder if she's leaving me

You have to get something right
Please don't be deceived
I haven't left Protestantism
It's as if she's leaving me

You have to get something right
Please don't be deceived
I haven't left the American Church
But I feel like She's leaving me
